Lifeguard Training Goes Virtual at DaySpring
DaySpring News, Youth Programs - August 17, 2020

PARRISH – Counselors at DaySpring Summer Camp held their lifeguard training with an online instructor this year, and were featured by Tampa ABC affiliate WFTS.

“It’s been difficult through some things when we don’t have an instructor on site, but he’s been very helpful throughout the entire process on teaching us what to do and how to do them,” said student and counselor, Caden Kendzior, in the report by ABC Action News reporter Robert Boyd.

The training was part of a number of camp activities of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida that have been modified due to Coronavirus.

“As the diocesan youth programs prepare for 2020 and beyond, four summer camp staffers were trained to become licensed lifeguards,” said Matthew Bowers, director of youth ministry and programming. “Even during this time of pandemic, our four lifeguards were able to obtain full certification through virtual teaching and testing.”
